China steel structure association of powder metallurgy branch issued the 2016 China metal injection molding (MIM) industry status report. This paper expounds the new progress of metal injection molding industry in China. In recent years, domestic MIM industry is growing by leaps and bounds. Every year there are a lot of new entrants to the industry, or other industry transformation of enterprises.
Metal injection molding parts sales in 2016 is about 5.8 billion yuan (8.53 million dollars). 67% of sales ($3.87 billion) is from five companies. It was reported that there are 15 companies sales more than 40 million yuan, the rest are small manufacturers.
Report said China (excluding Taiwan) has more than 130 injection molding parts manufacturers. With 65 in the pearl river delta, Yangtze river delta has 35, Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei and Shandong area 20. The rest is located in Hunan and other areas.
And applications, mobile phone parts injection molding in China’s occupies the largest market, then the computer parts, wearable devices, auto parts, medical equipment, as well as electric tool parts, etc.
Metal injection molding material (powder and feed) shipments volume is 6000-7000 tons. In 2016, about 3500-4000 tons of imported raw materials. It is predicted 8 injection molding powder manufacturers annual production capacity in the country is more than 100 tons. While 9 feeding manufacturers in the country annual production is about 800-1000 tons.
China’s most extensive processing of metal injection molding materials for stainless steel and low alloy steel, accounting for about 85% of production.
Is expected in the near future the MIM materials will be diversified, including nickel, stainless steel, non-magnetic alloy,aluminum alloy and high thermal conductivity of the alloy, etc.
